Wood and wooden structures



West African woods such as iroko, mahagony, and teak are investigated and compared with European spruce. The aim of this project is to provide engineers with necessary material properties for structural design. Hygral properties such as drying and shrinkage are studied in particular. Non-linear fracture mechanics is applied to characterize crack formation under load and under internal stress fields.

Major results are compiled in the following publications:
